PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT SUMMARY

During Phase 1 of the Broadway All the Way planning process, area residents and business owners weighed in about the future of this iconic corridor via informal gatherings on the street level such as Breakfast on Broadway events, surveys and stakeholder workshops. Feedback from the community at all locations focused on access to food, personal safety and safer infrastructure for pedestrians. Many echoed support for building community assets like places to go and have fun, shop, socialize and the need to reduce transit stops to provide faster bus service.

Community Feedback

Survey results indicated the biggest opportunities for improvement on Broadway included improving connectivity, health, equity, sustainability, street safety, the environment and the creation of more community.

Stakeholders met for workshops to discuss Broadway and learned about various aspects of the project such as tradeoffs associated with transit such as frequency of service, equitable distribution of routes and access to destinations within a specified budget. Stakeholders strongly supported safety improvements such as lighting, pedestrian crossings, bus lanes and safer accommodations for those making transfers, particularly at night. The group also reviewed Louisville Metro Public Works Complete Streets projects for insight for future planning.

Now in its design phase, The Broadway All the Way project seeks to transform this transit corridor along Broadway, Baxter and Bardstown Road into a complete street that supports all premium transportation. This summary highlights plans to engage with community stakeholders to ensure the project’s success.

Community Goals

Pending final design and funding approvals, this project is expected to advance to construction by 2028.
